This project is the second custom theme developed for Shea who blogs at All Garage Floors. The design was essentially the same as the previous custom theme to accommodate the advertising, but the theme itself is built to current coding practices. We also updated the home page with a large cover image.
This custom WordPress theme started with the most recent version of the Genesis Framework and was developed to be mobile first, instead of desktop first. The desktop version was also wider than the previous theme.
This project had a number of features that were customized just for it. The theme required a three column layout for most of the pages, with lots of space for ads, so we added a fixed sidebar, flexible content layout to Genesis that works well for both larger screens and tablets. This was much easier to do than previously with all the updates to CSS standards. The secondary navigation menu (shown below) displays different menu items depending on the page or category. This will help readers find the information they’re looking for more quickly. The custom footer menu repeats the client’s logo icon which is centered on the footer navigation bar, and provides additional options for visitors to find the information they need. The home page template was customized to make it easy to add text and random images above the blog.
This is the second time working with Marcy on a big project, not counting the times I have hired her services for the smaller ones. As usual, she demonstrated her expert knowledge and designing skills with WordPress.Shea, All Garage Floors
Most importantly, I can count on her to provide best practices that are current with the on going changes and requirements to keep a website running as quick and efficient as possible. She always seems to be on the cutting edge of development and working solutions to solve the newest issues that arise for websites due to changes in the way Google and other search engines operate.
I would highly recommend her services to the inexperienced, first time website owners to the long term website veterans.
This is the home page.
