This week there are some great finds for your website, including Nice Things Icon Set (actually images) from Smashing Magazine, Permian font family from Permian Typeface, available at FontSquirrel, and the Soliloquy Lite slider WordPress plugin from Thomas Griffin.
Nice Things Icon Set
Smashing Magazine just released a set of 128 icons by Chris Behr, aptly named Nice Things. They are more than icons though, more like small images. Included in the download are three sizes png – 100px, 400px, and 800px – with and without a background. The original source Adobe Illustrator file is also included. Chris’s icons are an eclectic mix of everyday objects, so they can be used for a variety of purposes. My favorites are the little red teapot, the striped neck scarf, and the cafetiere, or French coffee press.
Permian Font Family
The Permian font family is a versatile, humanist typeface. There are three typefaces available – sans-serif, serif, and slab, with each typeface having three styles – regular, italic, and bold. The fonts can be downloaded from FontSquirrel as otf. The free font license allows commercial use, and also use on websites, in ebooks, and also in apps. You can download the webfonts using FontSquirrel’s Webfont Generator which will give you all the code you need to add this font to your website theme’s style.css. These fonts are designed by Permian Typeface.
Soliloquy Lite Slider Plugin
The Soliloquy Lite Slider plugin for WordPress by Thomas Griffin is one of the easiest sliders to use. It creates a beautiful, responsive slider in any page, post, or widget area using a shortcode. You can create as many sliders as you like with as many images per slider as you like. For the lite version, it’s best if you crop your images to the same size before you upload them. Any text you add to the image caption area will be displayed by default; you can also link each image to a different page or post. There is also a premium version with lots more options, if you need more features.
